She attends Angier-Fuquay Sport Karate Center and is a
member of the X-MEN National Karate Team. Her
Instructors are Carl Boling / J.J. Boling (grand dad and
dad). She has been training since 2005
Bailey is a very charismatic little girl who has a
passion for karate and helping others. When she is not
doing gymnastics or traveling to tournaments with her
dad, she spends a lot of time helping her fellow karate
students with techniques, katas, and homework. Bailey
is not only a competitor for X-MEN National karate team,
she is also one of the most important people in helping
her team be successful in and out of the ring. Bailey's
favorite tournament to go to is The Battle of Atlanta.
She has been twice, and can't wait to go again this year
to test her skills against more national competitors.

Hall of Fame Awards Banquet and the second annual Junior Martial
Arts Hall of Fame. The American Martial Arts Alliance

organization in the North Carolina to set up such a gathering
and the event will feature guest speakers, Joe Corley, Founder
of the Battle of Atlanta, Rob Colasanti, President of NAPMA,

Gallagher, President MediaFit advertising agency, Allie
Alberigo, Senior Consultant of Member Solutions, and Melissa

Michael Stephens-Davis AMAA Competitor of the Month
Michael is a student of Sensei Don
Shaw in Durham, NC with a study in Isshinryu,
Jujitsu,
and Aikido.
His second school that he attends is with Sensei Betty Evans in
the Bahama, NC. His competition instructor is Ms. Goldbeck also
in Durham, NC. He was also named
Grand Champion at the Battle of Atlanta in
sparring also taking 3rd place in Kata and creative
Kata. Michael was VKA Grand Champion in 2006, Also Grand
Champion in the AMAA 2006 year. He was inducted in the AMAA
Junior Martial Art Hall of Fame in 2006 and 2007.
Duke University offer First Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Class in the
Country for Collage Credit
For over 19 years,
grandmaster Jesse Bowen has been on staff with the Duke University
Physical Education Program. He joined the Duke University program in
1988, after serving as Tae Kwon Do Sports Coordinator for the U.S.
Olympic Committee/North Carolina Amateur Sports – 87 Olympic Festival.
The Duke classes has produced over 24 black belts, Grandmaster Bowen
instructs 5 martial arts related classes at Duke and he is also, the
bowling instructor.
With the explosion of mixed martial arts, the Duke
University physical education program has added a mixed martial arts
physical conditioning class. The first day of class had 30 students and
a wait list. Assisting Grandmaster Bowen, will be professional MMA
fighter Jacob Whitfield a 3rd degree black belt under Hanshi Bowen and
owner of Triangle
Jujutsu Academy. He trains under Royce Grace and a former member of Team
ROC.

First National AMAA Sanction Sport Karate Event.
Through a great working relationship Battle of Atlanta Promoter
Joe Corley and American Martial Arts Alliance President Jessie
Bowen put together a great promotional package for AMAA Sport
Karate Members. The special promotions included free competition
enter given away at several AMAA Sport Karate tournament, free

schools management services, student services and paving a new future in

AMAA Sport Karate scholarship program is open to students who are
current members of the AMAA Sport Karate League for at least two years

graduating high school seniors or current college students who plan to
attend an accredited two-year college, four-year university, or licensed

2007 AMAA National Champions
The day’s events began
with the presentation of championship jackets and awards to the
2006 AMAA National Champions. Over 60 martial artists received
awards in Forms, Fighting and Weapons Competition in 120
divisions. The AMAA Nationals started on time and the day was
completed by 2:30 p.m. with over 180 competitors in attendance.
The tournament was covered by
local and national media including Action Martial Arts Magazine,
American Samurai, and the Durham Herald Newspaper.

We are pleased to welcome new members to the AMAA Board of
Advisors. Grandmaster Joe Corley will serve as business advisor for AMAA
Charter Schools. Grandmaster Gary Alexander, 10th Degree
Black, Master Terry Rich, 7th Degree Black Belt in Kempo (Benson,
NC), Master Doug Cobb, 8th Degree Black Belt in Jujutsu and Isshinryu Karate
(Raleigh, NC), and Master Freddie McNeil, 7th Degree Black Belt
in Tae Kwon Do (Durham, NC) will also serve on the board. Master McNeil owns McNeil’s Tae
Kwon Do and will serve as the Tae Kwon Do Technical Advisor
for AMAA Charter Schools.

On October 21st, the American Martial
Arts Alliance, LLC. held its 4th Annual Hall of Fame Awards Banquet
in Durham, NC at the Durham Marriott Civic Center. The
guest speaker was Grandmaster Joe Corley, a member of Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame.
Grandmaster Corley spoke on the mission statement of the American
Martial Arts Alliance and how every individual should have a personal
mission statement. The event was a sellout with over 200
attending. There were 52 well-deserving martial artists inducted into
the Hall of Fame, including Grandmaster Corley as Golden Pioneer.

Gospel Recording Artist James Perkins Sings at
the 2006 AMAA Hall of
Fame Awards Banquet
Gospel Singer James Perkins sang the national anthem at the 2006
AMAA Hall of Fame Awards Banquet on October 21, 2006. Mr.
Perkins
began singing professionally with the “Sensational
Nightingales,” and has traveled all over the world performing in
France, Germany and Switzerland. In February of 1997, Mr.
Perkins released his first album titled “Perk In The Spirit” on the
Beacon Records label.

North Carolina Amateur Sports (NCAS) is a non-profit organization
established in 1983 and hosted the first sanctioned State Games of North
Carolina in 1986. The State Games is North Carolina's largest
Olympic-style amateur sports festival, promoting health,
fitness, and athletic participation statewide.
The New AMAA State of the Art Website
As a part of the AMAA continual education program the new website will
allow members access to cutting edge technology (e-learn) with online
seminars on kata, weapons, self defense, jujutsu, and tele-lecture
seminars. In 2005, the AMAA sanctioned our first training camp, Camp
Budo, hosted by AMAA Board of Advisory member Hanshi Danny Glover. In
June 2006, the AMAA will hold its own first training camp.

The AMAA Nationals and the
AMAA Hall of Fame Award Banquet both had several hundred people in
attendance. The AMAA Nationals event began with the announcement of
the new AMAA sports league patch and logo. This was followed by the
presentation of the 2005 AMAA Sport Karate League Championship Jackets
and Awards.

was one of the most organized and professional events I’ve ever attend.

An eloquent evening with several hundred in
attendances, AMAA Hall of Fame and Award Banquet was held at the
Durham Marriott at the Civic Center in Durham, NC. This was a formal
event, so tuxedos and gowns were required for all inductees. Other
organization heads in attendance were: Frank William, President and
Founder of the Universal Martial Arts; Cory Waiters, Vice President of
Dojo; Hanshi Bruce Heilman, President and Founder of the International Karate Kobudo Federation;
Master HT Waller, President of the Virginia Karate Alliance;
and Shihan Larry Isaac. The event started on time, the food was
delicious, and the speaker was outstanding. Koshi Ann-Mae Heilman, Vice President and Executive Board
Chairperson for the International Karate Kobudo Federation and guest
speaker at the event, did a wonderful job of combining the American
Martial Arts Alliance's mission statement with a statement about the
needs of today’s martial arts.
After the
dynamitic and motivational speech given by Koshi Ann-Marie Heilman the
2005 induction awards were given.

Alliance Honors the Memory of the Late Sensei Willie Hunter
I
n
2004 the AMAA Hall of Fame added a new category to its list of hall of
fame inductions. The Martial Arts Memorial Award aims to honor the
friends and family of martial artists who have passed away. In 2004 the
AMAA Hall of Fame Martial Arts Memorial Award went to the family of
Master Belvin Eves for his contribution to the martial arts.
The 2005 AMAA Hall of Fame Martial Arts Memorial Award
went to the Family of Sensei Willie Hunter Sr. of Portsmouth, VA. Sensei
Hunter died on May 25, 2005 at age 65. More than 400 attended his
funeral. He was buried in his gi. There to receive the award were his
two sons, Willie Jr., a fifth-degree black belt, and Jeffrey, a
fourth-degree black belt. They are the owners of Tiger Martial Arts in
Portsmouth, VA.

MARTIAL
ARTS STUDENTS RAISE OVER $24,500 FOR HURRICANE VICTIMS
On
September 14th and 15th, AMAA Charter School, Karate International of
Durham, students spent their class time kicking to raise money to help
the people of the Gulf Coast. They successfully raised over $24,500 to
donate to the Salvation Army.
Karate International students under the leadership of Grandmaster Jessie
Bowen learned the value of giving to their local community by holding
special events, such as bakes sales, to raise money for local
charities. They also learned service to their fellow countrymen accomplished through
fund raisers to help people in need. These students raised $14,000 to
assist hurricane Fran victims on the East Coast and $24,500 to assist
Katrina and Rita victims on the Gulf Coast. They also worked to raise
$14,982 in support of the victims of the Southeast Asia tsunami as a
means to serve the global community. The total humanitarian effort for
the events mentioned above is over $52,250.

New Board of Advisers Instruct Shobudo Bojutsu Clinic

Jujutsu & Tanbo Workshop At the AMAA Training Center, Durham NC
On Saturday, July 23rd, we had the great pleasure of having Sho-Bu-Do
master Kaicho Robert Morton from
Nevada
and his student Shidoshi Wayne Nelson conduct a Jujutsu and Tanbo
Workshop for our students. Mr. Morton resides in Wellington, Nevada
where he teaches his art to an exclusive group of students. Mr. Nelson
resides in Jacksonville, North Carolina where he carries on the
tradition of Mr. Morton and handcrafts traditional weapons.
The workshop was broken down into two sessions. The morning session
included training in joint locks, armbar techniques, take downs, and
locks. The afternoon session included handling the Tanbo, striking and
locking positions, and take downs with the Tanbo. Our students gained a
wealth of information and learned many new self-dense techniques.
Kaicho Bob Morton and Shihan Wayne Nelson, will service as AMAA board
of advisers for 2006. They are also AMAA Hall of Fame inductees.
